FASST Survey

Psychosocial, Intergenerational, and Environmental correlates of Food, Activity, Sleep, Sun-Safety, and Tobacco Behaviors

The National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research will collaborate and support the development of the FASST survey, a tool designed to assess correlates of obesogenic and cancer preventive behaviors (mainly diet, activity, and sedentary behaviors) but also other behaviors (e.g., sleep, sun safety, tobacco) among parent-adolescent dyads.

The objectives of the study are to:

  • Examine the direct and indirect associations between neighborhood/community environments, home, psychosocial, intrapersonal factors, and other behaviors (e.g., sleep, sun safety, tobacco) on obesogenic behaviors.
  • Examine the role of relationships in the home (e.g. parent-adolescent) on obesogenic behaviors.

NCCOR members will be surveyed to gather input on the conceptualization and identification of FASST survey domains, as well as to help identify potential research gaps. The survey instrument will be developed by the NCI FASST survey team. The survey will be managed and distributed by the Coordinating Center.

Surveying NCCOR members will:

  • Strengthen the scientific content of FASST by pooling input from NCCOR community.
  • Enhance the potential of FASST to collect useful data addressing research gaps not currently captured in national data to answer key obesity research questions and development of interventions.
  • Offer NCCOR members and other potential research stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback and learn about how to vote/contribute survey items.
