The July 1 proposal deadline is fast approaching for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2014 Convention, occurring July 26-28, 2014, in Chicago. Submit your proposal today!

Recognizing and communicating the impact design can have on public health is a primary interest of the Institute and intended to be a focus area at the 2014 Convention. Subject matter experts in public health are welcome to apply.

Architects have the power to influence a broader societal culture. AIA is repositioning itself to be the organization for matters of civic and cultural engagement with its members guiding positive change in communities. The commitment calls for a renewed effort on each individual member to inspire and to realize the shift in professional culture as well as the resultant shift in the greater culture around us.

This work relates to and is supported by strategies highlighted by the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Learn more about NCCOR’s Green Health project here.

In their proposed educational program, applicants should be able to engage and connect with the design community in support of repositioning the AIA; content should be relevant and emphasize practical application.
