NCCOR at SHAPE America National Convention & Expo March 20–24, 2018

The National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) will feature the recently released Youth Compendium of Physical Activities at the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America National Convention & Expo March 20–24, 2018, in Nashville, TN. The SHAPE America convention brings together 5,000 professionals to share the latest research and innovations related to health and physical education.

Dr. Barbara Ainsworth, a member of NCCOR’s working group on youth energy expenditure, will discuss the utility of the Youth Compendium during the SHAPE America convention’s C.H. McCloy Research Lecture on March 22, 2018, at 7 a.m. CT. Her lecture is titled, “Utility of the Youth Compendium of Physical Activities,” which will highlight NCCOR’s newest tool, released in 2017. The Youth Compendium lists 196 common activities in which youth participate and the estimated energy cost associated with each activity. The tool can be used by a variety of people—for example, researchers, health care professionals, teachers, coaches, and fitness professionals—in a variety of ways to encourage physical activity in youth (e.g., research, public health policy, education, and interventions).

NCCOR representatives will exhibit at booth 1124 in the Music City Center at the SHAPE America convention and share information and resources about the Youth Compendium, Measures Registry, Measures Registry User Guides, and Catalogue of Surveillance Systems. One resource is a new fact sheet on the Youth Compendium that includes case studies written for physical education teachers.
