Trail Use Webinar Now Available for Free CEUs

NCCOR’s trail use workgroup took center stage during a recent webinar sponsored by American Trails, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and protecting recreational trails. More than 800 people registered for the April 22nd event titled Effective Programs to Improve Access and Use of Trails for Youth from Under-Resourced Communities.” Julian Reed, EdD, MPH, Furman UniversityMike HillASLA, U.S. Forest Service; David Brown, PhD, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; and Van Do, MPH, NCCOR Coordinating Center, were among the presenters.     

The recording is now available on the American Trails website and offers free CEUsThe webinar explores the physical, financial, and social barriers that keep young people of color from hiking in nature and shares strategies for designing successful interventions to reach under-resourced communities. The NCCOR scientific review about trail use provides the webinar’s research foundationand two case studies illustrate how successful community partnerships increased outdoor recreation among communities of color.  

In addition to the recording, American Trails released a detailed question and answer document based on audience questions that emerged during the session. Topics include how to ensure initiatives are community drivenare inclusive of people of color, and prevent the displacement of residents following new trail construction.
