Join the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF), Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and Hudson Institute for the first seminar in a quarterly series: “Articulating the Food Industry Context: Potential Frameworks for Profiting Health.” The first event, “Bridging the Food Industry-Public Health Divide: A Guide to More Effective Engagement and Policies,” will be led by Hank Cardello, Director of Hudson’s Obesity Solutions Initiative, and will be hosted by the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR). Cardello will be joined by panelists Wendy Johnson-Askew, Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Nestle and Richard Black, Vice President, Global Nutrition, PepsiCo.
The seminar will be held March 2, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at FHI 360, 1825 Connecticut Ave. NW, 8th Floor, Vista Room, Washington, DC.
The first seminar will explore how engaging and collaborating with food companies can help the public health community achieve its goals while providing an overview of key factors affecting industry-public health cooperation. The seminar will include examples of success stories, discuss barriers to progress, and highlight how these hurdles can be overcome. Questions around effective strategies to ignite progress and collaboration will also be explored such as:
- What best practices can we learn from companies who are transitioning their portfolios to more “healthier” products?
- How can public health research/measures drive greater progress and collaboration by food companies?
- What tools can the public health community use to engage industry and develop practical action plans?
- How do we build on our successes to tackle important outstanding challenges?
The goal of this seminar and the quarterly series is to encourage meaningful dialogue between the food industry, public health advocates, and consumers in order to strengthen the effort to reverse the obesity epidemic in the United States.
Mark your calendars for the other upcoming seminars on May 19, Oct. 20, and Dec. 10. Topics are forthcoming.
