NCCOR’s Healthy Eating Index project highlighted at public forum on dietary guidelines

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) is holding its first of five public meetings today and Friday (June 13-14) on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, Md. The Committee’s recommendations and rationale will serve as a basis for the eighth edition of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

On Friday morning, National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) members Alanna Moshfegh of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Jill Reedy of NIH will be making presentations on the state of the American diet. As part of the presentation, Reedy will be describing her work with the Healthy Eating Index (HEI), a tool designed to measure diet quality, and sharing the NCCOR HEI webpage that details the application of the HEI tool through an animated video, an infographic series, and a fact sheet.

The public is encouraged to submit written comments throughout the Committee’s advisory process. Written public comments can be submitted and/or viewed using the “Submit Comments” and “Read Comments” links, respectively on the Public Comments site.
