Purpose: The purpose of this funding opportunity announcement (FOA) is to invite applications from multidisciplinary research teams to create a community research resource of key members of the microbiota and factors they elaborate which modulate host physiology and pathophysiology related to obesity, nutrition, or liver, exocrine pancreatic, or digestive diseases, and to disseminate it broadly to the research community, in order to advance the development of microbiome-based interventions for prevention and treatment of these diseases.  The resource will include annotated genome sequences and cultures of the key microbes, chemical structures of the key compounds they elaborate, datasets used to identify key microbes and compounds, and software for novel analytic methods developed to enable their identification.

Total Awards: Application budgets are not limited, but must reflect the actual needs of the proposed research.
Eligibility:

Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as the Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) (PD(s)/PI(s)) is invited to work with his/her organization to develop an application for support. Individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups as well as individuals with disabilities are always encouraged to apply for NIH support.
