The IOM Standing Committee on Childhood Obesity Prevention hosted a one-day workshop titled “Legal Strategies in Childhood Obesity Prevention.”
The workshop was intended to highlight the evidence on current and potential legal strategies and their outcomes in childhood obesity prevention. The workshop featured presentations and discussions that provide insight from researchers, policy makers, community members, legal scholars and authorities, industry representatives, and representatives of local and national organizations and health agencies on:
- Current legal strategies in use at the national, state, and local levels and their outcomes
- Other public health initiatives that have used legal strategies to elicit societal and industry changes
- The challenges involved in implementation
- When legal strategies are needed and effective
- Opportunities for coordination and sharing of information on the success of existing and future legal strategies
