Childhood Obesity Research Across Borders: The Physical Environment
July 7, 2021
The National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR), in collaboration with the Fogarty International Center’s Center for Global Health Studies (CGHS), will host the second in a two-part webinar series on Tuesday, July 20 from noon-1:00 p.m. ET. The webinar, titled “Childhood Obesity Research Across Borders: The Physical Environment” will explore how the physical and food environment in the United States and Latin America impact childhood obesity.
This Connect & Explore webinar series features authors from the June 2021 special issue of Obesity Reviews titled “Childhood Obesity Prevention Across Borders: The Promise of US-Latin American Research Collaboration.” It explores nine cross-cutting themes and articulates a shared research agenda to address childhood obesity prevention in Latin America and among Latino populations in the United States.
The upcoming webinar will feature authors from the special issue who will share their research insights and identify opportunities for cross-border learning. They include:
- Abby King, Stanford University
- Olga Lucia Sarmiento Dueñas, Universidad de los Andes
- Maria Alejandra Rubio Rojas, Universidad de los Andes
- Ana Clara Duran, University of Sao Paulo
- Lindsey Smith-Taillie, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
The first webinar in the series, “Childhood Obesity Research Across Borders Social Determinants of Health” took place on June 17, 2021, and explored how migration and the social environment influence childhood obesity in the United States and Latin America. The recording from this webinar is now available on the NCCOR website.
All NCCOR webinars are free but participants must pre-register to receive access. Attendance is limited, so tell a colleague and register today!
